Sitaantaagu Glacier, Status: Retreating
“Sitaantuaagu” is the native Alaskan Tlinkit name for the Mendenhall Glacier located near Juneau. Over a decade ago I photographed the area and was stunned by the glacier’s rapid melting. Sadly, much more environmental collapse has taken place since then, as climate change rapidly has affected our entire planet. The oceans are being increasingly filled with discarded plastic and other trash. This series, completed in 2019-2020, are a meditation on the melting of the earth’s glaciers and the frightening amount of human garbage filling our oceans.
