Suiseki is the Japanese art of attempting to represent natural phenomena, from landscapes to the grand universe, using a stone only a few inches to a foot and a half in size. This is an ancient and masterful form of “contemplative observation”. Inspired by the Suiseki philosophy this work explored new ways of seeing, observing and experiencing nature.

Recording this moment in the life and death of these ancient trees was the subject of this group of drawings. These works, on vegetable fiber and cotton papers, are a remembrance of their existence.
